Domaine Petit Roy was founded by Japanese-born winemaker Seiichi Saito who has trained and worked at some of Burgundy’s most renowned domaines including Armand Rousseau and Mugnier. Establishing Petit Roy in Chorey-lès-Beaune he follows organic principles with minimal intervention, sourcing grapes from sustainably farmed parcels across the Côte d’Or and Hautes-Côtes. The 2023 vintage brought a harmonious balance of ripeness and freshness, producing wines of finesse and vibrancy.

The name “Challenge” reflects Saito’s approach to creating wines outside the strict appellation framework relying on intuition, adaptability, and the uniqueness of each vintage. The Challenge Chardonnay 2023 is naturally fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged partly in old oak barrels to enhance texture while preserving clarity. Lively notes of citrus, white peach and apple blossom are lifted by a refined mineral core. Elegant and precise, it pairs perfectly with shellfish, grilled fish, creamy risotto or soft-ripened cheeses.
