Montesecondo Sangiovese Tin Toscana IGT 2021
Montesecondo is a biodynamic winery located in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, at the northern edge of the Chianti Classico zone in Tuscany. Established by Silvio Messana in 2000, the estate comprises two biodynamically farmed properties planted with Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are situated at varying altitudes, with the higher site at 500 metres above sea level featuring limestone-rich soils, producing fresh and precise wines, while the lower site with clay and marl soils yields riper, fleshier expressions. The winery is certified biodynamic and follows organic practices, ensuring sustainable viticulture. Montesecondo's wines are vegan-friendly, made without fining or filtration and with minimal sulphur addition. The ‘TIN’ label represents a pure and natural expression of high-altitude Sangiovese.
The Montesecondo ‘TIN’ Sangiovese Toscana IGT 2021 is crafted entirely from Sangiovese grown in the estate’s higher limestone vineyard at 500 metres above sea level. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in concrete and is aged in the same vessels for around one year, without fining or filtration and with minimal sulphur. This elevage enhances purity and terroir expression. The 2021 vintage shows bright aromas of red cherry, pomegranate, and wild herbs, with lively acidity, fine tannins, and a mineral finish. Elegant yet energetic, it pairs beautifully with tomato-based pastas, grilled vegetables, roast poultry, and soft cheeses. Its balance and vibrancy make it both charming young and capable of graceful ageing.
