MOB Gauve Tinto 2016
Produced by MOB (Moreira, Olazabal & Borges) in the Dão region of Portugal, Gauvé Tinto 2016 is a remarkable expression of old-vine heritage and the elegance of the Serra da Estrela terroir. Founded by three highly respected figures of Portuguese winemaking - Jorge Moreira, Francisco Olazabal and Jorge Borges - MOB was created with the ambition of showcasing the unique identity of Dão through wines that reflect their origins with authenticity and precision. The grapes for Gauvé come from a historic “vinha centenária” (century-old vineyard), planted with a traditional field blend of indigenous Dão varieties. Located at high altitude on the granite soils of the Serra da Estrela area, these ancient vines produce naturally low yields and fruit of exceptional concentration, while the cool mountain climate and significant day-night temperature variation help preserve freshness, elegance and complexity. MOB’s philosophy is centred around respecting the vineyard and allowing these exceptional old vines to express the character of their unique landscape.
Crafted from a traditional field blend of native Dão grape varieties, MOB Gauvé Tinto 2016 is a refined and beautifully evolved red that showcases the remarkable ageing potential of Portugal’s historic vineyards. The wine displays an elegant aromatic profile of wild cherry, black fruits and violets, layered with notes of forest floor, dried herbs, spice, graphite and a subtle mineral character derived from the granite soils of the region. On the palate, it is beautifully balanced, combining vibrant acidity with silky tannins, depth and a long, savoury finish. A distinctive expression of Dão, Gauvé Tinto highlights the finesse, complexity and longevity that can be achieved from century-old vines, making it a wonderful partner for roasted meats, game, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses.
