Mee Godard Morgon 2023
Produced by Mee Godard, a highly regarded grower and winemaker based in the Morgon cru of Beaujolais, eastern France. After training in oenology and working in Burgundy, she established her domaine in 2013, quickly gaining recognition for precise, terroir-focused wines made from old vines and farmed with organic principles. Morgon is one of Beaujolais’ most structured crus, and the vineyards are planted on decomposed granite and schist soils with iron-rich elements that contribute depth, mineral tension and ageability.
The 2023 Morgon is made from 100% Gamay, sourced from multiple hillside parcels across the appellation, including some old vine sites. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, often using partial whole bunches to enhance aromatics and structure, followed by ageing for around 10 to 12 months in a combination of concrete tanks and neutral oak barrels. The wine shows vibrant aromas of red cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant with floral violet notes, crushed rock minerality and subtle spice. The palate is fresh yet structured with fine tannins, bright acidity and a long, savoury finish. It pairs well with roast chicken, charcuterie, duck, grilled meats and earthy vegetarian dishes.
