Maison Ventenac Paul 2021
Paul is a serious expression of Cabernet Franc, showcasing deep, expansive dark fruit, hints of cigar box spice, rosemary, and savory, meaty undertones. It unfolds beautifully in the glass over an hour or two.
Maison Ventenac is a contemporary winery equipped with all the modern winemaking tools—think concrete eggs and state-of-the-art tanks—nestled in the Cabardès region, part of the greater Languedoc in France’s southwest. Cabardès is a bit of a rule-breaker within France, requiring blends that combine Rhône varieties like Grenache and Syrah with Bordeaux stalwarts such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. While this style of blending is common in Australia, it’s a rarity in French wine regions.
Although the team at Ventenac produces a few wines under the official Cabardès designation, their true passion lies in breaking conventions. They focus on single-variety bottlings, presented in sharp packaging with thoughtful labels. From the uncommon Petite Arvine to juicy Grenache, these wines are a refreshing and delightful journey for any wine lover.
