Magoutes Xinomavro 2021
Produced by Magoutes in northern Greece, this Xinomavro comes from small plots farmed sustainably with attention to organic principles, though not fully certified. The vineyards sit on high-altitude limestone and clay soils in the Naoussa region, producing grapes with concentrated aromatics and firm structure. The estate emphasises low-intervention winemaking to allow the unique terroir of northern Greek slopes to express itself.
The 2022 Magoutes Xinomavro is fermented in stainless steel, followed by 8-10 months ageing in a combination of French oak and amphorae to preserve freshness while adding complexity. The wine shows aromas of red berries, tomato leaf, and dried herbs, with firm yet elegant tannins and a savoury, mineral finish. Pair with braised lamb, grilled vegetables, mushroom dishes, or mature sheep’s cheese to complement its structure and acidity.
