Les Pagodes de Cos 2010
Les Pagodes de Cos 2010 is the second wine of Cos d'Estournel. Situated in the appellation of Saint-Estephe, the property was founded in the early nineteenth century and remains renowned for its gravelly hillside vineyards overlooking the Gironde estuary. Les Pagodes de Cos is produced from younger vines and selected parcels of the estate, benefiting from the same terroir and meticulous viticulture that underpin the grand vin. The exceptional 2010 vintage is widely regarded as one of the greatest Bordeaux harvests of the modern era, combining remarkable concentration, freshness and structure, making it particularly well suited to long ageing.
Made from 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot, the wine was matured in French oak barrels before extended bottle ageing. Now with more than fifteen years of development, the 2010 is entering a superb drinking window, where the power of the vintage is beginning to harmonise with the complexity of maturity. Aromas of cassis, black cherry and blackberry are layered with cedar, cigar box, graphite, leather and subtle spice. The palate remains impressively structured, yet the tannins have softened considerably, revealing a wine of depth, precision and balance. Fresh acidity and the hallmark gravelly minerality of Cos d'Estournel provide lift and persistence through the long finish. Combining the grandeur of a great Bordeaux vintage with the approachability expected of a second wine, Les Pagodes de Cos 2010 offers an excellent glimpse into the character of one of the Médoc’s most revered estates.
