Description

Produced by Leeuwin Estate in the Margaret River wine region of Western Australia, Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the philosophy of one of the country's most iconic family-owned wineries. Established in the early 1970s by Denis and Tricia Horgan, with the encouragement of legendary Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi, Leeuwin Estate has become internationally renowned for producing wines of exceptional elegance and longevity. While the estate's Art Series wines have achieved worldwide acclaim, the Prelude range is crafted from younger vines and selected vineyard parcels, offering an approachable yet unmistakably Margaret River expression. The vineyards are sustainably farmed on ancient gravelly loam soils, where the cooling influence of the Indian and Southern Oceans allows Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly, developing concentration while retaining freshness and balance.

Made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with small proportions of Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon is fermented in small batches before maturing in French oak barrels, where careful oak integration enhances complexity without overshadowing the fruit. Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plum are layered with notes of cassis, cedar, graphite, dried herbs and dark chocolate. The palate is medium to full-bodied, combining finely structured tannins with vibrant acidity and the hallmark elegance that defines Margaret River Cabernet. Refined rather than powerful, it finishes with lingering notes of dark berries, savoury spice and mineral freshness, making it an outstanding partner for roast lamb, grilled beef and mature hard cheeses while offering excellent potential for medium-term cellaring.
