Description

Produced by Château Dauzac, Labastide Dauzac is the second wine of this historic Fifth Growth estate in Margaux, offering a more approachable expression of one of Bordeaux’s most elegant terroirs. Classified as a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification, Château Dauzac has long been recognised for producing wines that combine the floral elegance of Margaux with the structure and longevity of the Médoc. The estate’s vineyards are located on classic gravel and clay soils, with the tempering influence of the Gironde Estuary allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while preserving freshness and aromatic precision. Owned by the MAIF group and managed with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, Château Dauzac has embraced sustainable practices, including organic farming principles, biodiversity initiatives and a vegan-certified approach to winemaking. Labastide Dauzac is sourced mainly from younger vines and clay-rich parcels, producing a supple and expressive interpretation of the estate’s distinctive style.

The 2019 vintage is a blend of 58% Merlot and 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, reflecting the warmer, generous character of the vintage while maintaining the elegance expected from Margaux. The wine is vinified in the estate’s gravity-flow winery before ageing for around 12 months in French oak barrels, allowing the fruit and terroir to integrate harmoniously. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry and ripe plum are complemented by notes of violet, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf and subtle spice. The palate is smooth and refined, with polished tannins, balanced acidity and a savoury finish that reveals the wine’s Margaux origins. Approachable in its youth while retaining the structure to evolve over several years, Labastide Dauzac 2019 is a beautifully crafted introduction to the character and pedigree of Château Dauzac.
