La Sapata Babeasca Neagra 2022
La Sapata is a winery established in 2009 in the Sarica-Niculitel DOC of Tulcea in Romania’s Dobrogea region, where winemaking dates back to ancient Greek and Roman times. The estate farms vineyards on sandy-loamy, stony soils on terraced hillsides near the Danube Delta, using organic farming methods and traditional viticulture, and has a strong focus on sustainability and minimal intervention. The Babeasca Neagra 2022 reflects these principles and is considered a genuinely natural wine, the wine is also vegan.
La Sapata Babeasca Neagra 2022 is made from 100% Babeasca Neagra, a traditional Romanian red grape known for its lively acidity and red fruit character. After destemming, the grapes ferment in stainless steel at controlled temperatures with native yeasts, and the wine is matured briefly in stainless steel to preserve freshness and primary fruit flavours. Expect a ruby-red colour with fragrant notes of cherry and plum, medium body, smooth tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. It pairs well with seasoned pasta, white meats, mild cheeses and grilled vegetables.
