La Reserve de Leoville Barton 2019
Château Léoville Barton is a historic Second Growth estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux’s Left Bank, owned by the Barton family since 1826. The estate is known for producing classically structured, long lived wines with a strong emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon expression. The vineyards lie on deep Garonne gravel soils over clay subsoils, providing excellent drainage and ideal ripening conditions. The 2019 vintage is regarded as excellent in Bordeaux, producing wines of concentration, freshness and balance. The estate practices sustainable viticulture with careful vineyard management.
La Réserve de Léoville Barton 2019 is the estate’s second wine, made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The grapes are carefully selected from younger vines and parcels that do not enter the grand vin. Vinification takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing for around 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with a modest proportion of new oak. The wine shows aromas of blackcurrant, plum and blackberry with cedar, tobacco and graphite notes. The palate is medium to full bodied with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long, elegant finish. It pairs well with roast lamb, beef and mature hard cheeses.
