La Reserve de Leoville Barton 2018
La Réserve de Léoville Barton 2018 is produced by Château Léoville Barton, an historic Saint Julien estate owned by the Barton family since 1826. The vineyards sit on classic Garonne gravel soils over clay subsoil, offering excellent drainage and concentration, and vines average 35–40 years old. Viticulture follows sustainable practices including traditional ploughing without herbicides.
The 2018 vintage of La Réserve de Léoville Barton is a blend of around 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, drawn from younger vines and select parcels. Grapes are hand harvested, fermented in thermo regulated vats, then aged roughly 12–16 months in French oak barrels allowing the fruit to stay fresh and the oak influence to remain subtle. Expect aromas of dark berry and blackcurrant, cedar and spice with supple tannins, balanced acidity and a long, elegant finish. It pairs very well with roast lamb or beef, game dishes or mature cheeses.
