La Maison Romane is the négociant and winemaking project of Oronce de Beler, based in Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy. Established in the mid 2000s, the domaine focuses on small scale, artisanal production of site expressive Pinot Noir wines made in a traditional, low intervention style. The Chambolle-Musigny 2020 comes from vineyards within the village appellation of Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits, an area renowned for producing some of Burgundy’s most elegant and perfumed Pinot Noir. The soils here are a classic mix of limestone and fine clay over marl, contributing to the village’s signature finesse and aromatic lift. The 2020 vintage in Burgundy was warm and generous, producing ripe, supple fruit with good concentration while retaining freshness thanks to well timed harvest conditions. Farming is generally low intervention and aligned with organic and biodynamic principles. Production is very limited, reflecting the micro-négociant scale of the estate.

This Chambolle-Musigny 2020 is made from Pinot Noir, with vinification typically involving native yeast fermentation and a gentle extraction to preserve delicacy and aromatic purity. Winemaking Style is strictly low intervention and "natural." The 2020 was made with 100% whole cluster fermentation (stems included), which is a signature of de Beler's style to add perfume and "untamed" energy. The wine is matured for 12 months in old French oak barrels; the estate famously uses zero new oak to ensure the fruit and terroir are not masked by wood flavours. The style is classically Chambolle, offering aromas of red cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, rose petal and violets, layered with subtle spice and earthy undertones. The palate is silky and finely textured, with delicate tannins, lifted acidity and a graceful, mineral driven finish. It is drinking beautifully now with a slight decant but will continue to evolve over 6–10 years. Critical scores typically sit in the 90–92 point range, with praise often focused on its “refined, perfumed character and old-school Burgundian elegance.”
