La Dame de Montrose Magnum 2021
The producer is Château Montrose, a Second Cru Classé estate in the Saint Estèphe appellation of Bordeaux. Their 95 hectare vineyard lies on deep gravel soils with a clay subsoil. Since its acquisition in 2006 by the Bouygues brothers, the estate has pursued environmental stewardship and intends full organic certification by 2026. Farming is done with respect for terroir, careful parcel selection and sustainable vineyard practices.
The 2021 La Dame de Montrose Magnum is a blend of approximately 53% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, all from the same vineyard as the grand vin. Grapes are hand harvested, vinified with careful parcel selection, and the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (about 30% new) to allow oak subtlety without overwhelming the red fruit purity. On the nose and palate it shows aromas of cherry, blackcurrant and violet florals, leading to a clean, balanced and supple texture with refined tannins and fresh acidity. Its approachable yet elegant character makes it ideal with roast lamb or beef, game dishes, rich stews or mature/soft cheeses.
