Kershaw Elgin Syrah 2019
Kershaw Wines is a boutique winery and the personal project of English born Master of Wine Richard Kershaw, based in the cool climate Elgin Valley of South Africa. Established in 2012, the winery focuses on limited production, site specific wines that are crafted with meticulous precision. Kershaw is especially renowned for producing world class Chardonnay and Syrah that highlight Elgin’s unique terroir. Kershaw focuses on expressing terroir through clonal selection and low intervention viticulture, sourcing grapes from small vineyard parcels with well drained Bokkeveld Shale and Cartref soils that bring mineral precision to the wines. The estate’s winemaking emphasises purity and elegance in every bottle.
The Kershaw Elgin Syrah 2019 is 100% Syrah, hand harvested and fermented using selective parcels to capture intensity and purity of fruit. After fermentation the wine is matured for around 18 months in French oak barrels, allowing structure and spice complexity to develop. It displays vibrant red and dark berry fruit, pepper spice, floral notes and fine tannins with a lingering finish. This Syrah pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, rich stews, charcuterie and roasted vegetables, showcasing both depth and finesse from Elgin’s cool climate terroir.
