Produced by J’NOON, a collaboration between the Boisset Collection of Burgundy and Kapil Sekhri of Fratelli Vineyards, this exceptional red wine showcases the ambition and potential of Indian fine wine. Created to explore the unique character of the Akluj terroir in Maharashtra, J’NOON combines French winemaking expertise with India’s distinctive climate and landscape. The vineyards are located on the Deccan Plateau, where hot, dry conditions, intense sunlight, basaltic soils and significant temperature variation between day and night provide ideal conditions for growing Bordeaux-inspired varieties with concentration, freshness and structure. The project represents a meeting of two wine cultures, bringing together Boisset’s centuries of Burgundian heritage with Fratelli’s pioneering role in India’s modern wine industry.
The J’NOON Akluj Red 2016 is a Bordeaux-style blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot, 14% Marselan and 5% Cabernet Franc, crafted from carefully selected vineyards to express the depth and character of this unique Indian terroir. The wine has developed beautifully with age, revealing complex aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry alongside notes of cedar, tobacco, spice, graphite and dried herbs. On the palate, it is rich yet refined, with structured tannins, balanced acidity and a long, savoury finish. Combining the elegance of French grape varieties with the intensity and warmth of the Deccan Plateau, J’NOON Akluj Red is a distinctive and age-worthy Indian red that pairs beautifully with grilled meats, slow-cooked dishes, rich curries and mature cheeses.
