Izadi Rioja Reserva 2020 Half Bottle
Izadi Rioja Reserva 2020 comes from Bodegas Izadi, a family run winery in Rioja Alavesa founded in 1987. The estate farms vineyards in the triangle of Villabuena, Samaniego and Ábalos on clay chalk soils at 450–550?m elevation, where warm days and cool nights enhance fruit ripeness and freshness. Izadi is certified under sustainability programmes, and many of its wines are considered vegan friendly and made with environmentally respectful practices.
The 2020 Rioja Reserva is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes from older vines, destemmed and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 16?months in a combination of American (73%) and French (27%) oak barrels, about 20% new, followed by additional bottle ageing to qualify as Reserva. Medium to full bodied, it shows blackberry, redcurrant, tobacco and spice with balanced acidity and smooth tannins. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled red meats, chorizo dishes and mature cheeses, showcasing classic Rioja depth and complexity.
Owned and run by Lalo Antón and his family, Izadi, which means ‘nature’ in the Basque language, is a project rooted in a passion for gastronomy and wine. The estate was founded in 1987 by Gonzalo Antón, Lalo’s father, who, at the age of 37 and with a background in restaurants, decided to create his own winery with the aim of producing modern, perfumed, food-friendly wines that are true to their roots and a natural expression of the area.A beautiful nose adorned with black and red currant fruits, tobacco, liquorice and earthy undertones. The palate is deep and mouthfilling, with a medium-full body. Overall, a very pure, rich and concentrated Rioja. The 2018 has more fruity characteristics and a notable freshness compared to the 2017 vintage and has a very interesting potential for ageing. 37.5cl Bottle
