Description

Herdade do Rocim is a family owned, innovative Portuguese winery founded in 2000 by the Somers family in the Alentejo, between Vidigueira and Cuba. The estate has become renowned for its focus on terroir driven wines that reflect the character of southern Portugal. The vineyards are planted on a mix of granitic, schist and clay soils at varying altitudes, benefiting from warm, dry days and cool nights influenced by the Atlantic, which helps maintain freshness and natural acidity. The winemaking team, led by experienced oenologist Bruno Cunha, combines traditional viticulture with modern, low intervention techniques. Much of the vineyard is organically farmed or under conversion, and the winery emphasises sustainable practices, biodiversity and minimal chemical input.

Dr Bruno is a clarete style red, a traditional Portuguese approach that produces a light, fresh red wine with characteristics between a red and a rosé. It is made from the indigenous Baga grape, known for bright red fruit and lively acidity. The grapes are hand harvested and gently fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel to preserve freshness and varietal purity. Unlike heavier reds, this clarete style wine has shorter skin contact, soft tannins and a vibrant red fruit profile. Aromas include pomegranate, strawberry, raspberry, floral and subtle spice notes, with a silky, fresh palate. This light, vibrant wine pairs beautifully with grilled pork, roast chicken, pizza, pasta and other simple, flavourful dishes that complement its fresh red fruit profile and silky texture. Can be serve chilled for a refreshing summer red!
