Henschke Hill of Grace 2015
Produced by Henschke in the Eden Valley of South Australia, Hill of Grace 2015 is one of the world’s most revered single-vineyard wines and a benchmark for fine Australian Shiraz. The historic Hill of Grace vineyard surrounds the old Gnadenberg Lutheran Church and is planted to some of the oldest productive Shiraz vines in the world, many originating from pre-phylloxera plant material established during the 1860s. Situated at around 400 metres altitude on deep red-brown soils over ancient geological formations, the site produces wines renowned for their perfume, elegance and longevity. The outstanding 2015 vintage benefited from a long, mild growing season, delivering exceptional purity, balance and structure. The wine was awarded 100 points by James Suckling and 98 points by Decanter, confirming its status among the finest releases in the estate’s history.
Made from 100% Shiraz, the grapes are hand harvested and fermented in traditional open-top fermenters before ageing for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak hogsheads, with a restrained use of new oak preserving the vineyard’s character. Although now showing the first signs of secondary development, the 2015 remains remarkably youthful and tightly structured. Aromas of blackberry, mulberry and dark plum are layered with sage, star anise, dried rose petals, cedar and exotic spice. The palate combines extraordinary concentration with finesse, supported by silky tannins, vibrant acidity and exceptional length. Profound yet graceful, it captures the distinctive aromatic lift of Eden Valley Shiraz and has the structure to evolve beautifully for several decades to come.
