Description

Produced by Henri Chauvet in the Auvergne region of central France, Au Chant de la Huppe 2023 is a vibrant expression of Gamay grown on the volcanic slopes of the Massif Central. Chauvet is part of a new generation of growers helping to revive Auvergne’s historic vineyards, bringing renewed attention to a region once considered among France’s most important wine-producing areas. The vineyards are planted on basalt-rich volcanic soils at altitude, where cool nights and a continental climate help preserve freshness and aromatic lift. Sustainable farming and low-intervention winemaking allow the distinctive character of the terroir to be clearly expressed.

Made from 100% Gamay, the wine is vinified with a light touch to emphasise purity, energy and drinkability. Aromas of raspberry, red cherry and blackcurrant combine with notes of violet, wild herbs and a subtle smoky minerality derived from the region’s volcanic soils. The palate is juicy and vibrant, with bright acidity, supple tannins and a savoury edge that adds complexity and length. Fresh and approachable yet full of personality, it captures both the charm of Gamay and the distinctive identity of modern Auvergne, pairing beautifully with charcuterie, roast chicken and rustic French cuisine.
