Guerila Pinela 2023
Produced by Guerila Wines in Slovenia's Vipava Valley, Pinela is a distinctive expression of one of the country's rarest indigenous white grape varieties. Founded by Zmago Petric and now led by his son, Guerila has become one of Slovenia's most respected estates, dedicated to preserving the unique grape varieties and exceptional terroirs of the Vipava Valley. The vineyards are planted on steep terraces of mineral rich flysch (opoka) soils, where the meeting of Mediterranean influences and the powerful Bora wind creates ideal conditions for producing wines with freshness, elegance and a strong sense of place. Certified organic and Demeter certified biodynamic, Guerila farms its vineyards in harmony with nature, focusing on biodiversity, healthy soils and the authentic expression of each site.
Made from 100% Pinela, an ancient grape variety native to the Vipava Valley, the 2023 vintage is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged on its fine lees to develop additional texture and complexity while preserving the grape's vibrant character. Aromas of white peach, pear and citrus blossom are layered with notes of acacia flowers, fresh herbs, almond and a subtle mineral salinity. The palate is refined and beautifully balanced, combining lively acidity with a delicate richness and a long, savoury finish. Rarely found outside Slovenia, Pinela offers a fascinating glimpse into the country's winemaking heritage, showcasing the elegance and individuality of a variety perfectly suited to the unique climate and soils of the Vipava Valley.
