Produced by Guerila Wines in Slovenia’s Vipava Valley, a historic wine region shaped by strong Mediterranean and Alpine influences. The estate was founded by Zmago Petric, whose family has cultivated vines in the valley for generations, with a philosophy centred on organic farming, biodiversity and minimal intervention winemaking. Vineyards are located on steep terraced slopes at varying elevations, benefiting from cooling valley winds and significant day to night temperature variation. The soils are predominantly flysch, locally known as opoka, a mix of marl and sandstone that provides excellent drainage and contributes freshness, mineral character and structure. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic, and the wines are suitable for vegan consumers.
This wine is made from 100% Barbera harvested by hand from selected hillside parcels. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, followed by ageing for approximately 12 months in large oak barrels and used barriques to soften the wine while preserving varietal purity. The 2022 vintage shows vibrant aromas of sour cherry, blackberry and plum alongside hints of violet, dried herbs and sweet spice. The palate is fresh and energetic with lively acidity, fine tannins and a long savoury finish. It pairs particularly well with pasta dishes, grilled pork, charcuterie, tomato based sauces and semi mature cheeses.
