Giant Steps is a respected winery in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, founded in 1997 by partners Andrea and David Fitt and winemaker Nick Brown. The estate helped define premium cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Australia. The vineyards are located on ancient, well drained soils including sandy loam over clay and decomposed granite, with a cool maritime influenced climate that encourages delicate fruit and vibrant natural acidity. Giant Steps farm sustainably, with many sites certified organic or under conversion and their wines are made using minimal intervention.

The 2023 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir is made from selected parcels of Pinot Noir, reflecting the region’s characteristic elegance and fine texture. Fermentation is gentle, using a mix of whole berry and small open fermenters, with native yeasts and careful extraction. The wine is matured in French oak barrels for around 10 to 12 months, the majority of which are seasoned oak, to enhance complexity while preserving freshness and varietal purity. Aromas of ripe red cherry, raspberry, spice and forest floor lead to a silky, vibrant palate with supple tannins and balanced acidity. It pairs beautifully with roasted duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto and soft cheeses that complement its finesse and vibrant fruit profile.
