Description

Ca’Marcanda is Gaja’s Tuscan estate in Bolgheri, founded by Angelo Gaja in the mid 1990's after recognising the exceptional potential of the region’s coastal vineyards. Located in the Maremma area of Tuscany near Castagneto Carducci, the estate benefits from a warm Mediterranean climate moderated by sea breezes from the Tyrrhenian coast. The vineyards here are clayey limestone with a rich and dark topsoil, called 'terre brune' in Italian and that is giving structure, freshness and mineral complexity to the wines. Gaja farms with a strong focus on sustainability, careful canopy management and low intervention viticulture. The 2021 vintage in Bolgheri is considered outstanding, combining concentration with freshness and refined tannins.

Ca’Marcanda Promis 2021 is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Syrah and 10% Sangiovese, combining the richness of international varieties with Tuscan vibrancy. The grapes are fermented separately in stainless steel before ageing for around 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by additional bottle ageing before release. The wine shows aromas of ripe blackberry, plum and black cherry layered with Mediterranean herbs, spice and subtle tobacco notes. The palate is supple yet structured with polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long savoury finish. Drinking beautifully now, it can also age gracefully over the next 8 to 12 years. It pairs particularly well with grilled meats, wild boar ragù, roast lamb and aged hard cheese.
