Foradori is one of the most influential estates in Trentino, led by Elisabetta Foradori, who revitalised the indigenous Teroldego grape and helped redefine the region’s identity. Teroldego, often referred to as the “prince of Trentino grapes”, is native to the Campo Rotaliano and is prized for its deep colour, vibrant acidity and ability to express both fruit purity and earthy complexity. Based in Campo Rotaliano in the foothills of the Dolomites, the estate has been farmed biodynamically since 2009, with a strong focus on soil health, biodiversity and minimal intervention. The vineyards lie on alluvial plains formed by the Noce river, with soils composed of gravel, sand and stones that provide excellent drainage and contribute to the wine’s purity and minerality. The 2016 vintage in Trentino was excellent, offering a cooler, more classic profile with freshness, structure and outstanding ageing potential.
Foradori Teroldego 2016 (Magnum) is made from 100 per cent Teroldego, fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of concrete and neutral vessels to preserve varietal expression and vineyard character. The wine is aged for approximately 12 months in large oak casks and concrete tanks, followed by extended bottle ageing, with the magnum format allowing for slower evolution and greater aromatic complexity over time. The wine displays aromas of black cherry, plum, dried herbs, violet and earthy spice, with a palate that is more structured and savoury than younger vintages, showing refined tannins, vibrant acidity and a long mineral finish. It pairs beautifully with roasted meats, game, mushroom dishes and aged cheeses. Now entering a superb drinking window, the 2016 continues to evolve gracefully and can age for a further 10-15 years in magnum. Critics have praised the vintage for its “classical balance, depth and ageworthy structure,” highlighting its precision and longevity.
