Fontodi Vigna del Sorbo Gran Selezione 2016

Fontodi, established in 1968 in the heart of Tuscany’s Chianti Classico region, is a family-run estate renowned for producing high-quality, terroir driven wines. The vineyards are situated on the historic Vigna del Sorbo site, which sits at 350-450m altitude on stony, south-facing slopes with clay-limestone soils, producing grapes of exceptional concentration. The 2016 vintage was marked by a warm, dry season with cool nights, yielding ripe, structured Sangiovese with excellent ageing potential. The estate farms organically, prioritising biodiversity and sustainable viticulture.

The Vigna del Sorbo Gran Selezione 2016 is crafted from hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes. “Gran Selezione” is the highest quality tier within Chianti Classico DOCG, requiring estate-grown grapes, extended ageing and rigorous selection. Fermentation is in stainless steel, with 24 months ageing in French oak barriques to enhance depth and complexity. The wine offers layered aromas of dark cherry, plum, leather, and spice, complemented by refined tannins and vibrant acidity. It pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, game, aged pecorino and rich pasta dishes.
