Fattoria San Lorenzo is a third generation family estate in Montecarotto in the Marche, led by Natalino Crognaletti, who has developed a deeply traditional and low intervention philosophy since taking over in the 1990s. The vineyards are certified organic and farmed according to biodynamic principles, with all work carried out by hand to preserve soil life and biodiversity. Campo delle Oche comes from a single vineyard at around 380 metres in the Vallesina hills, not far from the Adriatic. Here, sandy and clay-rich soils with limestone elements provide both structure and freshness, while the continental climate with maritime influence supports slow, even ripening.

Campo delle Oche 2021 is made from 100% Verdicchio, sourced from low yielding vines and harvested by hand. After careful selection, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, including around 20 days of skin maceration to build texture and complexity. The wine completes malolactic fermentation and is then aged extensively, typically around 24 months on its lees in concrete followed by a further 12 months in stainless steel, with additional time in bottle before release. Unfined and unfiltered, it shows layered notes of ripe apple, pear, chamomile, almond, honey and spice, with a savoury, mineral finish. Only around 2000 bottles are made per vintage. This wine pairs well with rich seafood dishes, roasted white meats and aged cheeses.
