Te Rehua by Escarpment Pinot Noir 2018
Escarpment is a renowned Pinot Noir specialist in Martinborough, a cool-climate region on New Zealand’s North Island where long, sunny days and cool nights create ideal conditions for expressive Pinot Noir. The Te Rehua single vineyard sits on deep alluvial loams and gravels of the Martinborough Terraces, planted to multiple Pinot clones for complexity. Vineyard practices emphasise sustainability and low intervention, and this wine is typically regarded as vegan friendly.
The 2018 Te Rehua Pinot Noir is hand-harvested and open-top fermented with indigenous yeasts and a significant portion of whole clusters to enhance structure and aromatic interest. After fermentation it was matured for around 18 months in French oak barriques, developing rich texture and depth. Flavours include ripe black cherry, plum, spice and savoury herb, balanced by fine tannins and bright acidity. This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, wild mushrooms or mature cheeses.
