Dumol Western Reach Chardonnay 2021
DuMOL is one of the leading estates on California’s Sonoma Coast, founded in 1996 and recognised for producing site driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from some of the region’s finest cool climate vineyards. Under the guidance of winemaker and proprietor Andy Smith, the winery has built a reputation for combining Burgundian inspired winemaking with meticulous Californian vineyard management. Western Reach Chardonnay is sourced from a collection of exceptional vineyards spread across the western Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley, including sites influenced by the cooling Pacific Ocean. The 2021 vintage was outstanding, marked by a dry growing season, low yields and concentrated fruit, producing wines of exceptional purity, intensity and freshness. DuMOL's wines are generally considered vegan friendly, as the winery avoids animal derived fining agents and follows a minimal intervention approach.
DuMOL Western Reach Chardonnay 2021 is made from Chardonnay only and sourced from multiple vineyard sites selected to showcase the breadth of the western Sonoma Coast. The resulting wine offers aromas of lemon curd, white peach, nectarine and citrus blossom, layered with notes of hazelnut, brioche and crushed stone. The palate is rich yet energetic, combining creamy texture with vibrant acidity and a long mineral finish. It pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, roast chicken, turbot and creamy pasta dishes. Drinking superbly now, it will continue to evolve over the next 8–12 years. The 2021 received widespread critical acclaim, including scores of 95–97 points, with critics praising its “remarkable concentration, precision and crystalline expression of Sonoma Coast Chardonnay”.
