Description

Produced by Domaine Prieuré Roch, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes 2023 is a rare and highly sought-after Burgundy that reflects the estate’s uncompromising philosophy of terroir expression and minimal intervention. Founded by the late Henry-Frédéric Roch, whose vision was profoundly influenced by his years at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the domaine has earned cult status for wines that privilege vitality, texture and authenticity over technical perfection. The old Pinot Noir vines are rooted in the limestone and clay soils of Gevrey-Chambertin, where mature vine age, low yields and meticulous manual farming produce fruit of exceptional concentration and complexity. Cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles, the vineyards are managed as living ecosystems, with the aim of capturing the purest possible expression of site and vintage.

Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the wine is vinified with whole clusters and indigenous yeasts, following the domaine’s hallmark low-intervention approach with minimal sulphur and no fining or filtration. The old vines bring natural depth and intensity, while the 2023 vintage contributes remarkable aromatic purity and freshness. Aromas of black cherry, wild raspberry and dark berry fruit are intertwined with rose petals, Asian spices, undergrowth and subtle earthy nuances, with the whole-bunch fermentation adding floral lift and savoury complexity. The palate is both powerful and refined, combining the structure and depth characteristic of Gevrey-Chambertin with the silky texture and transparency that define Prieuré Roch. Fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a persistent mineral backbone suggest considerable ageing potential, while the wine’s energy and precision make it compelling even in its youth.
