Domaine Josmeyer Un Certain Regard 2019

Domaine Josmeyer is a renowned family estate in the Alsace region of France, established in 1854 and now run by the fifth generation, sisters Céline and Isabelle Meyer. The estate has been certified organic and biodynamic since 2004, with a strong focus on sustainable viticulture, minimal intervention and healthy soils. Vineyards are scattered across prime Alsace sites near Wintzenheim and Colmar, planted on varied soils of alluvium, loess, sand, clay and gravel. This terroir, combined with the cool continental climate, encourages slow ripening and the development of elegant aromatics and bright, precise acidity, allowing each vintage to express both varietal purity and vineyard character.

Un Certain Regard 2019 is a single varietal Pinot Gris from old vines, often noted for depth, concentration and finesse. Harvested by hand from a single plot on gravelly soils near Wintzenheim, the grapes are gently whole bunch pressed before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and century old oak vats. The wine is matured on fine lees for several months to build texture and complexity without oak influence. This 2019 shows aromas of white flowers, ripe orchard fruit, honeyed citrus and minerality, with a savoury, saline finish and vibrant acidity. It pairs beautifully with mushroom risottos, rich seafood, poultry in creamy sauces and soft cheeses.
