Domaine Changarnier Monthelie Pierrefitte 2020

Domaine Changarnier is a small family estate based in Monthelie, working vineyards across some of the Côte de Beaune’s lesser-known but increasingly respected appellations. The domaine farms organically, with a focus on healthy soils and low-impact viticulture, while the winemaking aims to preserve the individuality of each parcel. Monthelie Pierrefitte comes from a particularly stony, limestone-rich site, giving the wine a more lifted and mineral character than the softer, fruitier side of Monthelie might suggest.

The 2020 has the generosity of a warm vintage without losing the savoury, cool-edged character of the site. Ripe cherry and raspberry are accompanied by violet, dried herbs, subtle spice and a gently earthy undertone. On the palate, the fruit is supple and concentrated, while fine tannins and lively acidity give the wine shape and length. There is a pleasing stoniness beneath the fruit, becoming more apparent with air. Already approachable, it has enough structure and freshness to continue developing in bottle.
