Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Gevrey-Chambertin 2021
Winemaker Amélie Berthaut is helping to put the village of Fixin on the fine wine map with her stylish red Burgundy. She took over her father’s Fixin domaine in 2013, and subsequently added her mother’s Vosne-Romanée-based vineyards to create one large 18-hectare domaine which has been unified under the combined label of Berthaut-Gerbet from 2015. Thanks to the amalgamation of these vineyards, she is fortunate enough to work with prime parcels spread across the Côte de Nuits, including Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, and Vosne-Romanée.
"The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is a blend of three parcels, though 50% is Au Combe de Dessus. With 20% new oak, it has an attractive wild strawberry and red plum bouquet. Impressive focus. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-tuned tannins, quite vibrant and lively, orange rind and touches of black pepper furnishing the finish. Give this a year or two in bottle. Drink: 2024-2034."
