Dog Point Chardonnay 2020
Dog Point Vineyard is a respected family-owned winery in the Marlborough region of New Zealand, established in the late 1970s by viticulturalist Ivan Sutherland and winemaker James Healy. Since 2009, the estate has been fully certified organic under the BioGro NZ programme, managing its soils, biodiversity and vineyard health sustainably. Vineyards lie on free-draining silty clay loam and clay-loam soils of the Wairau and Southern Valleys, under Marlborough’s sunny, dry climate with cool nights which is ideal for slow ripening and aromatic precision. The wines are vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free, reflecting a low-intervention, hands-on philosophy.
The 2020 vintage is made from estate-grown Chardonnay hand-harvested and gently pressed, then fermented and aged on lees in French oak barrels (about 10–15% new) for approximately 18 months. The wine delivers fresh citrus, grapefruit and white-flower aromas, layered with flinty minerality, toasted biscuit and subtle lees character. On the palate it is bright and saline, with crisp acidity and a chalky, mineral finish. It pairs beautifully with scallops, grilled white fish, poultry, or lightly spiced Asian dishes and works particularly well with fresh summer salads or creamy seafood.
