Curatolo Arini Marsala Dolce 75cl
Curatolo Arini is one of the oldest family owned Marsala houses, founded in 1875 and still run by the same family in western Sicily. The vineyards are located around the Marsala zone, close to the Mediterranean coast, where a hot, dry climate is moderated by sea breezes. Soils are typically sandy with clay and limestone components, providing good drainage and contributing to aromatic concentration. Viticulture is largely traditional, with a growing focus on sustainability, though not formally certified organic. As a non-vintage fortified wine, Marsala Dolce reflects a consistent house style rather than a specific harvest, blending wines of different ages.
Curatolo Arini Marsala Dolce is made primarily from Grillo, Catarratto and Inzolia. The wine is fortified with grape spirit and sweetened using mosto cotto, then aged in oak casks using a system similar to solera for a minimum period, typically several years depending on the classification. This process develops rich oxidative notes of dried fig, caramel, toffee and spice. The palate is smooth and sweet with balanced acidity and a lingering finish. It is drinking well now and, thanks to its oxidative ageing, remains stable and can be kept after opening. It pairs well with desserts, pastries and blue cheeses. This style is appreciated for tradition and balance rather than high critical scores, and typically does not receive 95–100 point ratings.
