Crystallum Peter Max Pinot Noir
Crystallum is a highly regarded producer founded in 2007 by brothers Peter-Allan and Andrew Finlayson in the cool maritime Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Walker Bay, South Africa. The region’s name means “heaven on earth” and its proximity to the Atlantic along with ancient Bokkeveld shale, decomposed granite and sandstone soils create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, yielding wines with finesse and minerality. Crystallum follows sustainable, low-intervention practices with wild yeast fermentations and minimal oak influence.
The Crystallum Peter Max Pinot Noir 2024 is a 100% Pinot Noir blend drawn from several cooler climate vineyards in Hemel-en-Aarde and nearby sites, vinified with roughly half whole-cluster fruit and naturally fermented to preserve purity. After a gentle four-week maceration, the wine is matured in French oak for nine to eleven months, developing structure and aromatic complexity. This release shows vibrant red cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb and subtle earthiness with grippy fine tannins and a long dry finish. It pairs beautifully with duck breast, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon or roasted pork, balancing fruit intensity with savoury elegance.
