Colome Lote Especial Malbec La Brava 2020
Colomé Lote Especial La Brava is produced by Bodega Colomé in the Calchaquí Valley of Salta, one of the world’s highest wine regions in north west Argentina. Founded in 1831, Colomé is one of the oldest working wineries in the country and is recognised for its focus on extreme altitude viticulture and sustainable farming. The La Brava vineyard sits at high elevation in the Andes foothills, where intense sunlight, cool nights and dry mountain conditions encourage concentration and freshness. The soils are rocky, sandy and alluvial with excellent drainage, contributing to the wine’s mineral character and structure. The estate farms organically in practice with minimal chemical intervention, and the wine is considered suitable for vegan consumers.
This limited production wine is made from 100% Malbec sourced from the La Brava parcel, with hand harvesting and careful sorting of the fruit. Fermentation takes place in small vats followed by ageing for around 15 months in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop depth while retaining varietal purity. The 2020 vintage shows concentrated aromas of blackberry, black cherry and plum alongside violet, cocoa, graphite and subtle spice notes. The palate is full bodied and structured with fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a long mineral finish. It pairs particularly well with grilled steak, slow cooked beef, game dishes and mature cheeses.
