Col d'Orcia is one of Montalcino's most historic estates, owned by the Cinzano family since 1973 and renowned for producing elegant, terroir-driven Brunello. Located on the sun drenched southern slopes of the appellation, the estate benefits from a unique microclimate influenced by Monte Amiata. The vineyards are planted between 250 and 450 metres above sea level on soils of galestro, limestone and clay, which provide excellent drainage and contribute structure, freshness and mineral complexity. The estate follows a sustainable approach to viticulture with great respect for the natural environment, and the wines are generally considered vegan friendly.
Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino 2020 is made from 100% Sangiovese sourced exclusively from estate vineyards. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with extended skin contact to extract colour, aroma and fine tannins. The wine is then matured for 24 months in large Slavonian and French oak casks, followed by at least 12 months of bottle ageing before release. Rich aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry and violet are complemented by notes of tobacco, balsamic herbs, liquorice and sweet spice. The palate is elegant, full bodied and beautifully balanced, making it an excellent match for roast lamb, game, braised meats, porcini mushrooms and mature Pecorino cheese.
