Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey Sauternes 2002
Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes with roots back to the 17th century and a long château tradition. Its c.37–41 hectares sit on Sauternes’ highest terrace around Bommes, Preignac and Fargues. Vineyards rest on silica-gravel and clayey-gravel over limestone, giving concentration and finesse. The estate follows careful, sustainable viticulture.
The 2002 Sauternes is crafted mainly from Sémillon with small amounts of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle (roughly 90–95% Sémillon, remainder Sauvignon/Muscadelle). Hand-harvested in successive passes to select botrytised berries, fermentation and élevage are carried out in oak, with maturation of around 12–18 months. Expect honeyed apricot, marmalade, orange peel, toasted almond and marmite of exotic spice; serve with foie gras, blue cheese or fruit-based desserts.
