Chateau Clement Saint-Jean Medoc 2016
The producer Château Clément Saint Jean is a modest estate in the Médoc appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The vineyards lie on classic Médoc terroir (gravelly topsoils often mixed with clay limestone or sandy gravel subsoils) giving the vines excellent drainage and good heat retention for ripening. The estate practices sustainable viticulture across its vineyards.
The 2016 vintage is a blend of roughly 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are harvested and vinified using traditional methods and the wine is aged in oak barrels for about 9–12 months, allowing integration of fruit and subtle oak character. On the nose it reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum, with hints of graphite and soft spice. The palate is medium bodied with supple tannins, dark berry fruit and a fresh, slightly mineral finish. This wine pairs well with roast beef, lamb, game, hearty stews or mature cheeses.
