Cantine Povero is a family owned estate founded in 1948 in Cisterna d’Asti, now run by the third generation of the Povero family. They farm organically certified vineyards across the Barbera d’Asti DOCG zone in Piedmont, where rolling hills and continental influences shape the wines. Soils are predominantly calcareous clay and sandy marl, providing structure and freshness. The estate focuses on sustainability and many wines are suitable for vegans, reflecting a commitment to environmentally responsible production and preserving local traditions.

This Barbera d’Asti 2024 is fermented in stainless steel to preserve purity of fruit, followed by a short period of ageing in tank and bottle rather than oak to maintain freshness. The wine shows bright aromas of red cherry, plum and violet, with lively acidity and soft tannins. The palate is approachable and balanced, making it ideal with tomato-based pasta, grilled meats, charcuterie and mature cheeses, highlighting the classic food friendly nature of Barbera.
