Burn Cottage Riesling Gruner Veltliner
Burn Cottage is a distinguished biodynamic vineyard in Central Otago’s Cromwell Basin on New Zealand’s South Island, established in 2002 by Marquis and Dianne Sauvage with consultant input from Burgundian-influenced winemaker Ted Lemon. The estate’s soils are free draining schist and gravel on gently rolling slopes, with cool continental climate diurnal shifts that preserve natural acidity and intense fruit flavours. Vines are farmed in harmony with the environment to express purity and minerality.
The 2020 Burn Cottage Riesling & Grüner Veltliner is a co-fermented blend of approximately 66% Riesling and 34% Grüner Veltliner, hand-picked and fermented with measured skin contact before pressing. After fermentation the wine is matured for 11 months in stainless steel and neutral oak barriques to integrate texture and aromatic complexity. Expect enticing notes of white peach, jasmine, lime and white pepper with a richly textured palate, vibrant acidity and a chalky mineral finish. This expressive white pairs beautifully with spicy Asian cuisine, fresh seafood or creamy cheeses.
