Blank Bottle Orbitofrontal Cortex 2020 Half Bottle

Blank Bottle is a creative, nomadic winery founded by South African winemaker Pieter Walser, who makes wine without owning vineyards and instead sources fruit from a wide range of sites across the Western Cape. Operating on a minimal intervention philosophy, he focuses on expressing the best components from each vintage without strict geographic or varietal constraints. Vines for Orbitofrontal Cortex 2020 come from several vineyards in Firgrove, Swartland, Stellenbosch and Voor Paardeberg on varied alluvial, granite and decomposed shale soils.

The Orbitofrontal Cortex 2020 is a true multi varietal white blend including Verdelho, Palomino, Weisser Riesling, Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier selected as the team’s favourite components from the vintage and assembled to capture its essence. Grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness and chilled before whole bunch pressing with no additives; spontaneous wild fermentation took place in a mix of French oak, clay pots and egg shaped cement tanks. After around 10 months on lees to build texture and complexity, the wine was blended and bottled. Expect citrus, pear and floral notes with saline minerality and a long finish, and enjoy with grilled shellfish, seared fish or creamy pasta. Drinking beautifully now, this expressive blend should continue to develop for several years.
