Benoit Marguet Le Parc 3 Litre
Benoît Marguet is a visionary grower producer based in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay on the Montagne de Reims. The family estate, founded in 1870, has been farmed biodynamically since 2009 and is certified organic and vegan friendly. The 2014 vintage in Champagne delivered wines of finesse and purity thanks to a mild spring, cool summer and perfectly timed harvest. Le Parc is a prized biodynamic parcel planted in 1982, bordering Krug’s famed Clos d’Ambonnay and Selosse’s Le Bout du Clos. The site features a thick two-metre layer of clay and sandy loam tufa over chalk bedrock, lending both power and tension to the wines.
Le Parc Grand Cru 2014 3 Litr is made from 100% Chardonnay grown on the estate’s old vines. The base wine is fermented with native yeasts and aged in oak barrels before 5 years of lees ageing in bottle; triage took place on 20th of July 2015 and disgorgement in April 2020. The wine balances richness with crystalline precision. Aromas of citrus oil, white peach and brioche unfold into a sleek, saline palate driven by chalky minerality and a long, refined finish. Elegant and complex, it pairs beautifully with oysters, turbot in beurre blanc, or aged hard cheeses.
