Ben Haines Colour Block Pinot Noir 2021
Ben Haines is a boutique Australian winemaker based in the cool climate Yarra Valley of Victoria, crafting expressive wines that reflect site and season. After gaining experience at Mount Langi Ghiran, he established his own label working with carefully selected growers and his own small plantings to source quality Pinot Noir. The region’s maritime influenced climate and predominantly loam and clay soils produce balanced acidities and vibrant fruit expression in cool climate varieties like Pinot Noir. Haines embraces minimal intervention, using sustainable vineyard practices and gentle winery handling; his wines are typically unfined and unfiltered.
The Ben Haines Colour Block Pinot Noir 2021 is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, handpicked and fermented using a mix of whole bunch, whole berry and carbonic maceration on ambient yeasts. After fermentation the wine is pressed to older 500 litre puncheons and aged on lees for approximately seven months before blending and bottling without fining or filtration, preserving natural texture and aromatic purity. The wine is dry, light medium bodied and fragrant with red fruit, herbal notes and gentle earthy spice, framed by fresh acidity and subtle tannins. Its bright cherry and wild herb character pairs beautifully with roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes or mild, earthy cheeses and can be served slightly cool to accentuate its vibrant flavours.
