Description

Domaine Armand Heitz is a relatively young but highly regarded estate based in Pommard in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, founded by Armand Heitz in the 2010s following experience in finance and a return to his Burgundian roots. The domaine has quickly gained recognition for its thoughtful vineyard work and commitment to environmentally conscious farming, incorporating organic and biodynamic principles alongside elements of permaculture to enhance biodiversity and soil vitality. The Pommard “Vaumuriens” vineyard is a well-situated hillside site on the northern side of the appellation, benefiting from cooler exposures that preserve freshness even in warmer years. Soils here are classic clay-limestone, with a notable iron content typical of Pommard, contributing to structure and depth. Burgundy’s continental climate, combined with these soils, produces wines of both power and finesse, and the 2022 vintage delivered healthy, ripe fruit balanced by good acidity and freshness across the Côte de Beaune.

Armand Heitz Pommard Vaumuriens 2022 is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, typically incorporating a proportion of whole-bunch fermentation to enhance aromatic lift and structure. The grapes are carefully handled with gentle extraction techniques, favouring pumping over to preserve elegance, before maturation in French oak barrels for around 10 to 15 months, with a modest percentage of new oak to maintain balance. The wine is often bottled without fining or filtration, reflecting a low-intervention approach. In the glass, it shows expressive notes of red cherry, raspberry and subtle floral hints, alongside undertones of spice and earthy minerality. The palate is structured yet refined, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a long, savoury finish. This style pairs particularly well with roast duck, lamb, game dishes or mushroom-based plates, complementing both the wine’s freshness and its underlying power.
