Armand Heitz Bourgogne Rouge Magnum 2023
Domaine Armand Heitz, based in Chassagne-Montrachet in Burgundy, is a dynamic estate led by Armand Heitz, who has expanded his family holdings across the Côte de Beaune since taking over in the 2010s. The domaine is committed to regenerative agriculture, with vineyards farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles to promote soil health and biodiversity. The Bourgogne Rouge comes from parcels located near renowned villages such as Meursault, Pommard and Mercurey, within the wider Burgundy region, which is characterised by a moderate continental climate. The soils are primarily clay, silt and marl with limestone subsoils, providing both structure and aromatic lift to Pinot Noir.
This Magnum format of Armand Heitz Bourgogne Rouge 2023 is made from 100% Pinot Noir, with fruit carefully harvested and vinified to preserve freshness and elegance. Fermentation typically includes a balance of whole cluster and destemmed grapes, allowing for gentle extraction and aromatic complexity. The wine is then aged for approximately 8 months in French oak, primarily older barrels, ensuring subtle integration of oak without overpowering the fruit. The resulting style is supple and fruit driven, showing notes of red cherry, wild strawberry and soft floral tones, alongside hints of earth and spice. Silky tannins and fresh acidity make it highly approachable, pairing well with charcuterie, roast poultry, pork dishes and soft cheeses. It is designed for early drinking but can develop over three to five years.
