Armand Heitz Folie Sauvage Coteaux Bourguignons
Domaine Armand Heitz, based in Chassagne-Montrachet in Burgundy, is a progressive estate rooted in a long family history dating back to the 19th century, with Armand Heitz taking charge in 2011 and expanding the domaine across the Côte de Beaune and beyond. The vineyards are farmed using regenerative agriculture, with strong organic and biodynamic principles aimed at restoring biodiversity and soil vitality. Folie Sauvage is sourced from a combination of sites in Meursault, Pommard and Volnay for Pinot Noir, alongside Gamay from Beaujolais Villages in Pruzilly, reflecting a broader Burgundian identity. Terroir varies between clay-limestone soils for Pinot Noir and schist-based soils for Gamay, contributing both structure and freshness.
Folie Sauvage Coteaux Bourguignons 2023 is a blend of approximately 60% Gamay and 40% Pinot Noir, vinified to emphasise freshness, drinkability and fruit purity. Fermentation is carried out with minimal intervention, typically using indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing in neutral vessels such as stainless steel or older barrels for a short period of around 6 to 8 months, preserving the vibrancy of the fruit rather than adding oak influence. The wine is light to medium bodied, with lively acidity and fine tannins, showing notes of red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, alongside subtle spice and earthy undertones. Juicy and supple in style, it pairs well with charcuterie, grilled meats, roast poultry and soft cheeses, and is best enjoyed within two to three years of release.
