Angus Paul Transient Lands Pinotage
Angus Paul is a rising South African winemaker based in Stellenbosch, launching his own label in 2020 after experience at other respected estates including Alheit Vineyards, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines and Reyneke Wines. He champions heritage varieties such as Chenin Blanc, Pinotage and Cinsault, working with old vineyard sites in sub regions like the Polkadraai Hills where vines grow on bony granite soils and are exposed to cooling breezes. His focus is on minimal intervention, hand harvesting and natural fermentations, with sustainable viticulture.
The Angus Paul Transient Lands Pinotage is from a single Polkadraai Hills site. The grapes are hand picked and fermented with indigenous yeasts, followed by gentle extraction to preserve fruit purity. After fermentation the wine is matured in neutral oak barrels for around 10 months, allowing texture and spice complexity to develop while retaining vibrant fruit character. It shows intense dark berry and plum aromas with savoury spice, subtle earthiness and fine, integrated tannins with a long finish. This expressive Pinotage pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, barbeque, rich stews and peppery sausages, showcasing both depth and regional cool climate influence.
