Alex Foillard Brouilly 2017 MAGNUM
Alex Foillard, son of renowned Beaujolais winemaker Jean Foillard, is part of the new generation of natural winegrowers in the region. Having studied viticulture and oenology, Alex began producing his own wines in 2016, working organically and following his father’s minimal intervention philosophy. His vineyards in Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly are cultivated without chemicals, using sustainable and organic practices. The wines are vegan-friendly, unfined, unfiltered, and made with minimal sulphur to preserve purity and terroir expression.
The Brouilly 2017 Magnum is crafted from old-vine Gamay grown on pink granite soils typical of the Brouilly appellation. Grapes are hand harvested and undergo whole bunch, semi-carbonic maceration with native yeasts, followed by gentle pressing and ageing in old French oak for 7-9 months. The result is a lively and elegant wine with aromas of crushed raspberry, cherry and violet supported by fine minerality and silky tannins. It pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, charcuterie or earthy vegetable dishes like wild mushroom ragù.
